Effect of growth hormone and cimaterol on meat quality and muscle fibre characteristics

Effect of growth hormone and cimaterol on meat quality and muscle fibre characteristics

Beef carcass and meat quality evaluation Proceedings of a satellite symposium of the 42nd EAAP annual meeting, Dummerstorf Rostock, Germany, 6-7 September 1991: 69-77

Of 16 ovariectomised or intact Danish Black Pied heifers, half were injected with 15 mg growth hormone daily for 15 wk from a body weight of 147+or-3 kg, and the remainder served as untreated controls. For treated heifers, daily gain averaged 840 g, body weight at slaughter 231 kg and the number of FU consumed per kg gain 3.1 vs. 664 g, 214 kg and 3.9 for controls.
