Effect of manganese sulphate foliar application on yield and manganese concentration in grain of winter wheat and spring barley

In field trials from 1981 onwards on chernozem, degraded chernozem and gleyed brown earth, winter wheat and spring barley were given recommended rates of FYM and NPK and MnSO4 was applied to leaves at 500 g/400 litres water/ha annually and 250 g from 1985 onwards at Feekes stages 6, 6 + 8, 6 + 10 or 10 only. Extractable soil Mn exceeded 228 mg/kg on average and was 2- to 10-fold higher than exchangeable Mn.
