In the kharif seasons of 1979-80 rice Jaya was grown with continuous submergence or alternate wetting and drying and given 0, 60, 120 or 180 kg N/ha in 4 forms. Continuous submergence markedly increased N and P uptake compared with alternate wetting and drying. Increasing N rates increased N uptake. A significant increase in P uptake was observed with up to 120 kg N/ha.
