Effect of plant density and nitrogen on growth and fruit yield of bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.)

The effects of N application rate (0, 40, 80, 120 or 160 kg/ha) and plant spacing (45 x 20 cm, 45 x 30 cm or 45 x 40 cm) were studied in experiments on a sandy loam soil. Plants received basal doses of P2O5 and K2O (each at 50 kg/ha) at planting. N was applied in 3 equal split doses at planting, at 30 days and at flowering. Plant height, number of primary branches/plant and leaf area were greatest at the lowest planting density.
