Effect of the promoter and the first intron of maize Adh1 on foreign gene expression in rice

Effect of the promoter and the first intron of maize Adh1 on foreign gene expression in rice

Maydica 35(4): 353-357

Effect of the maize Adh1 (alcohol dehydrogenase) promoter and intron 1 on the expression of the beta -glucuronidase (gus A) gene of Escherichia coli in rice was examined by assaying (1) electroporated protoplasts, (2) transformed callus and (3) leaf and root tissues of transgenic plants. The Adh1 promoter poorly expressed the gus A gene in protoplasts; however, addition of intron 1 in the untranslated leader sequence of the chimaeric gene increased the activity 11-18-fold.
