Effects of hot environments in summer on performances of pigs for digestion and growth

Japanese Journal of Swine Science 25(2): 56-60

In the 1st of 2 experiments, 16 pigs (8 castrated and 8 weighing approx. 40 kg were housed in temperature-controlled units at 23 degrees C (group 1) or in conventional pens exposed to hot environment (av. temp. = 26.3 degrees ) (group 2), and fed ad lib. on a diet containing 14.5% crude protein and 3800 cal/g gross energy for 3 wk. Daily feed intake and gain were lower in animals in group 1 than in group 2, but there was no difference between groups in the efficiency of feed utilization.
