Effects of stocking densities on the productivity of commercial layers in the tropics

Fowls were housed in cages with a floor area of 1161 or 1855 cmsuperscript 2; 2 or 3 fowls were placed in each cage. Laying performance, mortality, food consumption and food conversion were recorded from 151 to 500 days of age. Egg production and food consumption decreased with decreasing floor area per fowl. For 2 and 3 fowls per cage, egg production per hen housed averaged 268.0 and 259.0 resp. in the smaller cages, and 270.9 and 265.0 in the larger cages.
