Electron microscopical observations on the cytoplasmic inclusions of wheat plants infected by wheat spindle streak mosaic virus and wheat yellow mosaic virus

The cytoplasmic inclusions and organelle changes observed by EM in wheat leaves infected by wheat spindle streak mosaic virus (WSSMV) and wheat yellow mosaic virus (WYMV) isolates were not significantly different at an ultrastructural level. Numerous, conspicuous pinwheels, bundles, laminated aggregates and membranous bodies were observed in mesophyll, epidermal and xylem parenchyma cells of the infected leaves. The pinwheels occurred in groups and were mainly in a parallel arrangement.
