Embargoes on and off: some effects of ending the export ban on federal logs and halting exports of state-owned logs

Embargoes on and off: some effects of ending the export ban on federal logs and halting exports of state-owned logs

Western Journal of Applied Forestry 4(3): 77-79

An outline of the possible economic effects of two proposed congressional policy changes that could affect the timber economy of the northwest USA through old-growth exports: permitting the export of federal logs could expand high-grade log exports by about 630 million bd ft annually (about 50%); and allowing states to regulate exports of their logs, which could reduce high-grade exports by about 35%.
