The activity of amylase in pancreas, amylase, chymotrypsin in chyme and maltase, isomaltase, sucrase and lactase in small intestinal mucosa, was studied, in relation to age and diet, in 11 puppies, 18 adult and 2 ileum-cannulated adult dogs. Activity of chymotrypsin was low and independent of age; it increased 8-fold with dietary protein of above 55% DM. Sucking puppies had low amylase activity which increased at 8 weeks old to attain the adult value at 12 weeks.
