Epidemiology of mammary neoplasms in dogs

Of the 155 mammary neoplasms examined in the 3-year period 1986-88, 75 (48.4%) were malignant and 58 (37.4%) benign; 22 (14.2%) were classified as dystrophia. The high risk breeds were German Shepherds, Dachshunds and Cocker Spaniels. Tumours in the anterior mammary glands were generally smaller than those in the posterior glands.
