Twelve diverse maize cultivars were evaluated for resistance to E. turcicum in the rainy seasons of 1987 and 1988 following sowing in April, May and June. Meghalaya Local Yellow, a susceptible control, was used as the infector row for uniform spread of the disease in both years. Natural disease incidence was recorded at the dry-silk stage. Deccan 103, Suwan 1, Ganga 11 and Hemant were classified as resistant, and NLD DFP70 and VC80 X (Eto tuxp br2) as moderately resistant.
