Factors affecting gonadotropin releasing hormone induced LH and FSH release in anoestrous cows

A single injection of GnRH (250 micro g) induced synchronous release of LH and FSH in postpartum suckler cows (n = 6). High ambient temp. (>22.1 degrees C), early postpartum interval (38-50 days), low body weight (<600 kg) and high body condition reduced LH release in response to GnRH. Injection of oestradiol (1 mg) 6 h prior to the GnRH treatment (n = 10) selectively increased LH release.
