Fertilization in intercrop system with pigeonpea under rainfed conditions of Narmada valley

In 1980-82, pigeonpeas in rows 90 cm apart were intercropped with soyabeans or blackgram in 1:1 or 1:2 row ratios. The 3 crops were given no fertilizer or 50 or 100% of the recommended rates of N + P at 20 + 75 kg/ha for pigeonpeas and soyabeans and 20 + 50 kg/ha for V. mungo. The 3 fertilizer rates were applied in different combinations to the main crop and the intercrops. The highest net returns were given by pigeonpeas/soyabeans intercropped stands in 1:2 row ratio.
