In work at Derbent in the Dagestan ASSR during 1975-89, the dwarf durum wheat Quilafen was crossed with the durum wheats Khar'kovskaya 46 (tall) and Dzhafari (semidwarf) and with a semidwarf Triticum dicoccum accession. The results indicated that differences in height between Quilafen, which carries the recessive allele of Rht1 from Norin 10, and Dzhafari were conditioned by at least 2 genes. Semidwarfness in T. dicoccum was controlled by 2 recessive genes.
