Genetic control of the main grain yield indices in spring durum wheat

Grain weight per plant and per ear was determined in 7 varieties and their hybrids from diallel crosses. Genes with additive and dominance effects were involved in the control of both traits. Dominant alleles were more frequent than recessive ones and generally acted in the direction of increasing values for the traits. The contribution of the genotype to grain weight/plant fell and to grain weight/ear rose with a deterioration in environmental conditions.
