Genetic parameters of milk composition traits in Holsteins using multivariate restricted maximum likelihood

Genetic parameters of milk composition traits in Holsteins using multivariate restricted maximum likelihood

Brief Communications of the XXIII International Dairy Congress, Montreal, October 8-12, 1990, Vol I: 56 (102)

Genetic selection programmes in dairy cattle mainly emphasize lactation milk yield. However, milk composition, particularly protein percentage, is important also, and reliable estimates of correlations between lactation milk yield and percentages of fat and protein are thus required. Multivariate Restricted Maximum Likelihood Methods were used to obtain estimates of these correlations using a model that included relationships and sire groups.
