Four electric conductivity levels (4, 8, 12 and 16 mmhos) and 5 salinity sources (NaCl, KCl, Mg2SO4, saturated extract of saline soil and sea water) were compared for use in screening potato genotypes for salinity tolerance. Seed germination, determined in Petri dishes with saline solutions, and plantlet survival, measured after 10 days of growth in salt-free water, was studied in 4 open-pollinated seed progenies. Results indicated that a selection pressure of 20% is achieved at 4-8 mmhos, with screening taking place 8-12 days after germination.
