The grazing of grassland swards with a high white clover content by dairy cows was studied in Trevarez (Brittany) on soils liable to be waterlogged in spring. In Trial I, a perennial ryegrass sward receiving 350 kg/ha N grazed at 3- to 5-week intervals was compared with a ryegrass-white clover sward receiving 30 kg/ha N and grazed with rotations 10 d longer. Over 4 years, the clover content of the sward was 45% in summer and autumn.
