Abstract
In 5 individual feeding experiments, 284 lactating German Black Pied Dairy half-sisters, sired by 15 bulls, were fed roughage ad lib, and were given concentrates throughout the lactation irrespective of milk yield. The hsuperscript 2s of daily dry matter intake, relative feed intake and daily energy balance during the 305- day lactation were 0.44, 0.04 and 0.53 resp. The correlations of breeding values for daily feed intake and energy balance during parts of the lactation with total lactation values were highly significant (0.75 to 0.96).
