Deoiled rice bran (DRB) was treated with 0.34 N hydrochloric acid and heated for 30 min. Hemicellulose and cellulose contents were reduced by 47.9 and 36%, respectively, and available carbohydrate content was increased by 30%. For 5 weeks, 96 one-week-old broiler chickens were fed on diets containing 0, 10, 15 or 20% acid-treated DRB. Weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion efficiency, nutrient utilization, metabolizable energy content of feeds, nitrogen, phosphorus and calcium balances, and carcass yield were the same in all groups.
