Influence of diet composition during the dry period on fertility and milk yield of Israeli-Holstein cows

Dry cows from 4 Israeli-Holstein herds had free access to oat, barley or wheat hay while controls also received concentrate or silage supplements up to 4 kg DM. During the subsequent lactation, daily fat corrected milk (FCM) yield was 1.3 kg higher in controls and maximal FCM production was 1.7 kg higher (P = 0.01) than in the treatment group.
