Influence of moisture on rate of decay of beech wood by Hypoxylon truncatum or Lentinus edodes, and their oxygen requirements

Influence of moisture on rate of decay of beech wood by Hypoxylon truncatum or Lentinus edodes, and their oxygen requirements

Transactions of the Mycological Society of Japan 31(1): 45-53

ISSN/ISBN: 0029-0289

In decay tests on beech wood blocks at 8 different moisture contents H. truncatum caused max. wt losses at the lowest moisture content (22%), L. edodes and 3 other basidiomycetes at moderate moisture (48-68%). Consumption of O2, measured by means of Hg manometers, was more rapid in cultures of H. truncatum than in L. edodes.
