Infrared spectra of products formed by the photoinduced reactions of (P2)x(O2)y clusters in solid argon

Infrared spectra of the products of the photoinduced reaction of P2 and molecular oxygen in solid argon at 12 K have been recorded. Concentration studies showed that the products were derived from the photolysis of phosphorus-oxygen clusters, (P2)x(O2)y, where x = 1, 2 and y = 2-5. In argon matrices with 1, 2, and 3% O2, the major products of the reaction were oxo-bridged P2O3 and two isomers of oxo-bridged P2O4.
