Kin recognition in rearing and acceptance of queen honeybees

Kin recognition in rearing and acceptance of queen honeybees

Pszczelnicze Zeszyty Naukowe 32: 35-43

This study investigated (A) if workers can recognize larvae to which they are related and if the workers favour such larvae in rearing queens; (B) if the acceptance of a new queen by queenless workers is affected by her relatedness to them. Results indicated that kinship was not involved in either A or B.
