Kinorhynchospora japonica gen. nov., sp. nov. (Microsporidia) from the intestinal epithelium of Kinorhynchus yushini (Homalorhagida, Pycnophyidae)

Zoologicheskii Zhurnal 70(10): 5-11

Kinorhynchospora japonica gen. nov., sp. nov. (Microsporidia) from the intestinal epithelium of Kinorhynchus yushini (Homalorhagida, Pycnophyidae)

Kinorhynchospora japonica gen. nov., sp. nov. was found in the epithelium of the mid-intestine of Kinorhynchus yushini, a member of the meiobenthos at 5 m depth in the Sea of Japan near the Syaudem estuary. The meront, pansporoblast, rosette-like sporont, sporoblast and 2 types of mature spores are described from TEM studies. The systematic position of the new genus is not certain: it shows similarities to Nosemoides, Perezia and Encephalitozoon.
