Low-level peat substrates for Dieffenbachia cultivation

Annali dell' Istituto Sperimentale per la Floricoltura 20(1): 45-56

Twelve growing media composed variously of peat, poplar bark, rice chaff, rose compost, polystyrene, cotton waste, perlite and olive husks were compared with the commercial substrates Cultural (a German peat-based compost) and California (sedge-type peat from Italy). A 1:1 mixture of peat and rose compost and a 1:1:1 mixture of peat, poplar bark and rose compost gave the best results with Dieffenbachia Carina.
