Mapping of immune responsiveness toward coronavirus JHM to linkage group VI of the rat

Mapping of immune responsiveness toward coronavirus JHM to linkage group VI of the rat

Transplantation Proceedings 22(6): 2561-2562

LEW, LEW.1N and (LEW X BN)F1 rats, and rats from a set of 13 LEW X BN recombinant inbred strains, were inoculated with coronavirus of the strain JHM by injection into the brain at 4-6 wk of age. The animals were typed for 19 marker genes. The strains differed in susceptibility to infection. Susceptibility/resistance appeared to be controlled by an autosomal recessive gene that was not linked to the hooded locus (h) in linkage group VI on chromosome 14. The recessive allele conferring susceptibility (Ir-JHMs) occurred in LEW rats, and the dominant allele for resistance (Ir-JHMr) occurred in BN rats.
