Mean ME content (calories/100 g), calculated from fat, protein and carbohydrate contents reported in earlier parts of this series of papers, ranged from 33.9 to 63.2 in various liquid milks, from 155.6 to 495.9 in preserved milks, from 45.1 to 93.7 in yoghurts, from 56.0 to 66.2 in flavoured milks, from 363.7 to 763 in butter, from 137.3 to 461.7 in cheeses and from 119.3 to 252.6 in ice creams.
