Abstract
Problems involved in agricultural utilization of the hilly regions of Yugoslavia are discussed; particular attention is paid to Serbia. Of the total area of Yugoslavia, 44.3% is devoted to natural meadows and pastures, and in Serbia the area under grass is 28.52%; hay yields and quality are low (0.5-2.0 t/ha). Three methods of introducing mechanization to increase forage production are advocated: harvesting green fodder for immediate cattle feeding, hay making and silage making. Machinery suitable for these operations is briefly described.
