Meiotic chromosome behaviour in Triticum durum, Triticum dicoccum and Triticum polonicum hybrids

Two cultivated wheats, T. durum N59 and T. dicoccum KDH, were crossed with T. polonicum F234. Chromosome pairing at metaphase I resulted in 14 bivalents for both the parents and F1 hybrids. The total chiasmata frequency at diplotene and metaphase I was greatest in T. durum N59. The highest chiasmata terminalization was shown by T. polonicum F234 at diplotene and by T. durum N59 at metaphase I.
