Modelling the role of food imports, food aid and food security in Africa: the case of Botswana

Modelling the role of food imports, food aid and food security in Africa: the case of Botswana

Food aid reconsidered: assessing the impact on Third World countries: 91-116

The effects of food aid on a recipient economy cannot properly be ascertained without a consistent data base; this is true for micro, macro, sectoral, distributional and nutritional assessments. If food aid is a valuable development resource, it is essential that its contribution either to food security or to general economic development can be analysed and understood. This paper uses the case of Botswana to illustrate the effects of food imports, food aid and food security in Africa.
