Since its arrival in New Zealand before 1988, the Australian sheep blowfly, L. cuprina, has spread throughout the North Island and into the northern part of the South Island. This species can initiate fly-strike in sheep and goats and has already become a serious pest in New Zealand. Its distribution and behaviour are currently being studied jointly by DSIR and MAF research groups.
