Naturally occurring variants of maize Adh1 differ in organ-specific expression both in quantity and developmental timing

Crosses were made between 4 maize lines homozygous for one of the following Adh1 (alcohol dehydrogenase) alleles: Adh1-1S (Berkeley Slow), Adh1-1F (Berkely Fast), Adh1-54S (Efron Slow) and Adh1-33F (Super Gold Pop). Allozyme ratios, monitored as ADH activity, and (35S)-methionine incorporation were used to quantify expression of the alleles.
