Nature of the inheritance of heading dates and yield of plants in reciprocal hybrids of spring bread wheat

In a 2-year study of the duration of the emergence to heading period and of grain weight/plant in varieties and hybrids, earliness was dominant and heterosis was apparent for grain weight/plant, which was negatively, although not closely, correlated with growth period duration (r = -0.12 to -0.50), so that high-yielding genotypes could be found in various maturity groups.
