Nitrogen fertilizer application on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) III. Uptake and distribution of nitrogen in organs of the plant

Nitrogen fertilizer application on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) III. Uptake and distribution of nitrogen in organs of the plant

Rivista di Agronomia 25(3): 427-433

In field trials near Piacenza in 1986-89, winter wheat Mec was given 0 or 118-131 kg N as ammonium nitrate during the winter. Total N uptake was greater with than without N fertilizer. N distribution between plant parts did not differ between fertilizer treatments. When the 1st node was visible, about 70% of plant N was in the leaves and the remainder in the stem. At anthesis, about 40% of N was in leaves, 40% in stems and 20% in spikes.
