The distribution of the nodular endophyte of E. angustifolia and the nodulation capacity were studied in a small stand on an alkaline gley solonchak soil in Spain. The plots were in three zones differing as regards stand density. The presence of the endophyte and its nodule-forming capacity were normal, and comparable to those of other sites with actinorrhizal plants. Nodulation capacity was related to soil pH and stand density.
