Abstract
Preliminary results are discussed of a long term sand culture trial [1989 onwards] with cv. Hass on 3 rootstocks, viz. G755, Duke 7 and G6, grown in a complete nutrient solution (control) or a solution lacking N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Mo, B or Cl. So far, stunted growth and typical deficiency symptoms have been noted in solutions lacking N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S. Some symptoms of Fe and Cu deficiencies occurred. Trees on rootstock G6 generally appeared weakest and those on G755 strongest.
