Ornithine alpha -ketoglutarate and glutamine return tissue amino acid concentrations to normal in starved rats

Ornithine alpha -ketoglutarate and glutamine return tissue amino acid concentrations to normal in starved rats

Medecine et Nutrition 27(1): 25-27

Wistar rats were deprived of food for 3 days and then were refed for 7 days on a diet supplying 192 kcal and nitrogen 2.25 g/kg daily supplemented with ornithine alpha -ketoglutarate 1.4, glutamine 1.00 or casein 1.19 g/kg daily. Starvation for 3 days resulted in a decrease of 20% in the pool of free amino acids in all tissues studied.
