Most DNA and RNA structures with parallel-stranded (ps) interactions involve modifications of the DNA chemical structure, unusual solution conditions, interactions of specific ligands or higher order associations. Given an appropriate complementarity between 2 strands of DNA, the ps double helix (ps-DNA) forms under physiological conditions and in the absence of chemical alterations of the bases or backbone.
