Abstract
Data were obtained on a Tsigai flock comprising 26 rams, 257 breeding ewes and 147 replacement ewes. For the 3 groups resp., fleece weight averaged 4.99, 3.96 and 4.56 kg, and wool fibre diameter 32.5, 33.8 and 32.1 micro m, group differences for both traits being significant. For rams aged 24-30, 36-42 and 48.54 months, and for ewes of the corresponding ages, fleece weight averaged 6.02, 5.90, 5.52, 4.0, 3.89 and 3.68 kg resp., the differences between the 3rd and the first 2 age groups being significant. Fibre diameter averaged 27.8, 31.8, 38.7, 32.1, 33.8 and 34.7 micro m, all group differences being significant. The hsuperscript 2 of fleece weight and fibre diameter, from analysis of half-sister data, was 0.67+or-0.09 and 0.49+or-0.08 resp.
