Physical processes in the greenhouse are discussed with emphasis on the need for a quantitative description to enable computer modelling. General aspects of the inter-relationship between greenhouse climate and external weather are considered. Physical processes are outlined, including radiative exchange, ventilation exchange, crop transpiration, exchange with the cover and heating system and exchange with and transport in the soil.
