Physical properties of latosols under Calopogonium caeruleum which affect the development of rubber roots

Responses of Hevea brasiliensis trees at 3 locations (plantations aged 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 years) at Getas, in central Java, were studied in latosolic soil with a cover crop of C. caeruleum. Soil samples were taken at depths of 0-20, 20-40, 40-60 and 60-80 cm and roots at the same depths were measured. The results showed that air-filled pores and soil permeability had the most effect on root density.
