Physiological alterations in Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Negrito-897 exposed to different doses of sulphur dioxide

In greenhouse trials, Negrito-897 was exposed to 8 p.p.m. SO2 for 15, 30, 45 or 60 min and the effects on stomatal resistance to diffusion of water vapour, relative leaf water content and rate of photosynthesis were monitored for the following 96 h. Relative water content was little affected by SO2, decreasing by only 1.7% after the longest exposure and no foliar symptoms were observed.
