Physiology of nutrition of banana plants in vitro and during the hardening-off period

During growth in vitro, a marked acidification of the MS medium occurred, with the pH falling from 5.8 to 3.1. This resulted in sucrose hydrolysis, the concentration of sucrose falling and the concentrations of fructose and glucose increasing. The effects of different concentrations of sugars in the medium on plant growth is reported; the highest growth rates (shown by increases in plant FW and height) occurred with fructose at 20 and 40 g/litre, respectively.
