Potato cultivation in crop rotation and in monoculture. I. Effect of an increased share of potatoes in the crop rotation on their yield, the productivity of the rotation and soil structure

In 1981-83, years 5-7 of a long-term trial, potato cultivars susceptible (Sowa and Ronda) or resistant (Rys) to Globodera rostochiensis were grown in monoculture or in rotations containing 20, 40 or 60% potatoes. Other crops in the rotations were spring barley, maize and rye. Compared with potatoes grown once in 5 years, tuber yields were reduced by 8.5, 12.2 and 24.2% with 40, 60 and 100% potatoes in the rotation, respectively. Yield decreases were greater in Rys than in Sowa and Ronda.
