Present conditions and problems in the wholesale market (2). The wholesale market and the distribution system

Food Policy Study ( 69): 57-99

Wholesale markets form a channel through which all marketed fruits and vegetables in Japan pass and so form an essential part of their distribution. During the period 1965-85 the value of vegetables passing through these markets increased, while that of fruits increased only up to 1973, then remained stable or decreased slightly. The contribution of intermediate sized markets increased, while that of regional markets decreased. The wholesale markets showed considerable diversity.
