Prevalence of trachoma among school children in Plateau State, Nigeria

This study, described as the first field study of the prevalence of trachoma in schoolchildren in Nigeria, investigated 8 primary schools in Jos. Some 3005 children were examined in 3 types of school: (1) private, (2) public and (3) public in poor areas. The average prevalence of trachoma increased across these groups, from 7.5% in group (1) to 19% in group (3), with no sex difference.
