During April to July 1987, progesterone concentrations were measured by radioimmunoassay in 137 skim milk samples and in 138 blood plasma samples obtained 3 times a week during 17 oestrous cycles from 12 suckling Gir cows at pasture. Samples were also collected 23 days after natural service. Correlations were found between milk and blood progesterone values. During the oestrous cycle low values were found in the follicular phase and peak values in the luteal phase.
