Qualitative and quantitative studies on the effect of Striga hermonthica upon the quality and quantity of grain yield from millet (Pennisetum typhoides)

Quantitative and analytical methods were used to determine the effects of S. hermonthica parasitism upon P. typhoides WC-C75 grain yield and quality. Striga reduced the total grain yield by 80%. The wt of individual seeds was reduced by 47% and the size (length and breadth) was reduced by 65% and 74%, resp. Biochemical studies of total protein and water soluble protein showed reductions of 80%.
